Issue
Having children with learning difficulties is incredibly challenging, especially those who are non-verbal. Many parents are unaware of how to approach properly communicating with their non-verbal children, which adds even more stress to bringing up a child. Communication is an essential part of life, thus it is essential for a parent to understand their child.
Discovering that your child will have certain learning disabilities, through ultrasounds is possible, which can be a source of great distress to some parents.
Insight
The NHS & Makaton Charity collaboration focuses its aim on parent's who have discovered their child has learning difficulties through prenatal scans. Knowledge provides an opportunity to be prepared, by antenatal classes through the NHS, specifically focused on teaching Makaton; which is a communication tool with speech, signs, and symbols to enable people with disabilities or learning disabilities to communicate.
Solution
The collaboration between the NHS and the Makaton charity provides the parent(s) with a care package, guiding them through their Makaton journey. It takes care of everything for the parent(s), to minimise stress and maximise results.
Including an introductory card game, providing basic signs. As well as an app to book directly into an antenatal Makaton class.
